Account & Subscriptions

Account details, subscription updates and client downloads.

Do I need an email address to create an account?

No email address is required. Create an account with a username and password. Keep your login details safe, and never send your password together with your subscription link. Use your account to view plans, orders, client downloads and support tickets; route configurations in a client are not account login credentials. If you forget your login details, don't keep guessing passwords or create a new account to recover the old one. Use the account help option available in the panel and have your order details ready for verification.

Where can I find my subscription link, and how do I update my routes?

Sign in to the user panel and find your subscription details in the account overview. Copy or import them into your client as instructed. To update your routes, open the subscription management section in your client, select the existing subscription and run an update. Then check the route list to confirm the results. If the update fails, first check your plan status, network connection and whether the link was copied in full. Don't repeatedly add the same configuration. Your subscription link contains access credentials, so protect it like a password and redact it fully before sharing a screenshot or submitting a support ticket.

Do I need to choose a new plan when I switch devices?

There is no device limit, so switching devices alone doesn't require you to choose a new plan. Sign in to your existing account on the new device, open the client downloads section and follow the instructions for your platform to get the client and subscription. Then check that the imported configuration is enabled. When using multiple devices, plan downloads, video streaming and other tasks around your account's data balance; unlimited devices does not mean unlimited data. When you stop using an old device, remove its local subscription configuration and make sure no one else can access your saved account details.

Which platforms are supported, and what should I know before downloading a client?

VPNRain supports Windows / macOS / iOS / Android / Linux. Sign in to the user panel, open the client downloads section and follow the platform-specific instructions to get the client and subscription. For iOS, follow the availability instructions shown in the panel. Before installing, make sure the download and installation instructions match your platform. After importing, check your route and proxy status. Don't download installation files from unverified mirror pages, or copy another device's entire system network setup onto your device.

Will updating my subscription remove custom settings in my client?

Whether custom settings are overwritten depends on how your client handles subscriptions, rules and local overrides, so there isn't one answer for every client. Before updating, check where your custom settings are stored and use the client's backup or export feature to save them. If you only need to refresh your routes, update the existing subscription rather than removing the entire client. If rules behave differently afterward, check whether the active configuration and local overrides are still in effect before deciding whether to restore a backup.

Connections & Troubleshooting

Identify what's affected first, then check traffic handling and app rules.

My client says it's connected, but websites won't load. What should I do?

A connected status usually means the client has started the connection process; it doesn't confirm that the destination website responded successfully. Try visiting several websites in your browser to see whether all access is failing or just one service. Then check your active configuration, selected route and system proxy settings. Make sure no other proxy app is also handling your network, then try another route and reopen your browser. If only one website fails, check its regional requirements, your account status or service announcements before assuming your plan has stopped working.

Why does my browser work through the proxy when an app doesn't?

Apps may handle system proxies, independent proxies or system network tunnels differently. A working browser doesn't mean every app uses the same route. Check whether your client supports and has enabled a suitable traffic-handling mode for the app, then see whether the routing rules are sending its domain directly. If your client offers TUN or a similar mode, review its permissions and network documentation before enabling it. Regional policies or account restrictions within the app may also cause issues, and changing the network route alone may not solve them.

What should I check if subscription import fails or my route list is empty?

First, check your plan status and subscription entry point in the panel. Make sure the copied link has no extra spaces or missing characters, and that you haven't mistaken a webpage address for a subscription link. Then confirm that your client supports the import method provided in the panel and review any subscription update messages. If the route list is empty, don't rush to enter server details manually. Save the error message and try fetching the subscription again. For a support ticket, provide the client name, platform and error text. Don't include an unredacted subscription credential or account password.

My connection keeps dropping. How can I tell whether it's my network or the route?

Keep your client configuration unchanged and check whether regular internet access also drops. If possible, compare results on another trusted local network. If the issue only occurs on your current network, check the Wi-Fi signal, sleep settings and network switching. If it occurs on different local networks too, compare routes. Change one thing at a time and note when the issue occurs and what error appears. This makes it easier to describe the problem in a support ticket and pinpoint the cause than repeatedly reinstalling the client or changing several settings at once.

ChatGPT won't load or stops streaming a response. How can I troubleshoot it?

First, distinguish between a page that won't load, a login failure and a response that stops partway through; they may have different causes. Check the service's supported regions, your account status and service announcements, then confirm that your client applies the expected rules to the relevant domains. Streaming responses rely on a continuous connection, so keep the route unchanged while troubleshooting instead of repeatedly switching exits mid-response. If regular websites work but the service still fails, save the page's error message and consult the Complete AI Guide. A network connection doesn't replace the target platform's eligibility or usage requirements.

Speed & Routes

Compare the same scenario to distinguish between your local network, route and destination service.

If things slow down during peak hours, should I switch routes or change settings first?

Pause background downloads, system updates and other network-heavy tasks. Check that your local connection isn't congested, then compare routes using your existing configuration. Try to use the same website or streaming scenario each time, and avoid changing video quality, client mode and network environment all at once. If another route works better, you can use it temporarily. If every route is slow, continue checking your local network and the destination service. Peak-hour performance depends on multiple network links, so a connected status in the client alone isn't a reliable measure of speed.

Which regions are covered, and how should I choose a route?

VPNRain offers 100+ countries / 150+ routes. Check the panel and the latest client route list for currently available regions and routes. First check whether the destination service has regional requirements, then compare actual performance. A shorter geographic distance doesn't guarantee a better connection on every network. When signing in or editing content over an extended session, try to keep the exit region consistent and avoid unnecessary switches. Route counts describe coverage; they don't guarantee the same results for every website, account or app.

Do IEPL, relayed and direct routes indicate speed?

These labels describe how routes are arranged, not a speed ranking for every use case. IEPL generally refers to a dedicated link type; a relayed route forwards traffic through an intermediate node, while a direct route describes how the connection path is arranged. Actual performance also depends on your local network, destination region and the service you're accessing. Check the route types shown in the panel and compare them in the same usage scenario. Don't change client protocol settings based only on a route label, and don't treat route labels as a guarantee of access to streaming or AI services.

A video loads, but picture quality keeps changing. Does that mean the route has failed?

Not necessarily. Players adjust picture quality based on available bandwidth, buffering, device capabilities, account entitlements and the content itself. First check the quality options allowed by the platform and your current playback settings. Then pause other data-heavy tasks and observe buffering on the same content. When comparing routes, keep the playback device and local network the same, and avoid repeatedly seeking through the video. If the platform shows a region- or proxy-related error, troubleshoot that error separately. A working route doesn't guarantee access to a particular library, resolution or title.

What's the difference between rule mode and global mode?

Rule mode uses domains, addresses or rules in the client to decide how traffic is routed. Global mode generally applies the current proxy policy to traffic handled by the client. It doesn't necessarily cover every app; that depends on system permissions and the traffic-handling mode. If an app is behaving unexpectedly, review the client documentation and temporarily compare modes to see whether routing rules are involved. Once you identify the cause, restore settings suited to everyday use. Global mode doesn't mean faster speeds, and avoid frequently changing your exit region during sensitive account activity.

Billing & Refunds

Plan prices, data rules, payment checks and refund requests.

How much does a monthly plan cost, and when does data reset?

Monthly plans are ¥9.9/month for 60GB, ¥18/month for 250GB and ¥28/month for 500GB. Data resets monthly on the activation date. Choose a plan based on your usage and check your current data balance and plan status in the user panel. Don't assume the reset date follows the calendar month. Video streaming, file downloads and multiple devices can all affect data usage. If you plan to change your subscription, check the change details shown in the panel before proceeding rather than relying on an old order or cached client information.

What's the difference between a data plan and a monthly subscription?

Data plans are ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB and ¥658/3000GB. They don't expire and last until the data is used. Monthly subscription data resets each month on the activation date. When choosing, consider whether your usage is continuous and whether you want to manage data on a monthly basis, rather than comparing prices alone. “Never expires” describes the validity of a data plan; it doesn't mean data is automatically replenished after you use it up. If you already have a plan and want to change billing types, check the handling details shown in the panel. Don't assume plans will stack or automatically offset each other.

Which payment methods are supported, and what if my plan status doesn't update after payment?

Alipay / WeChat Pay / USDT are supported. Follow the instructions on the order page in the panel to complete payment. After paying, return to the original order to check its status and confirm that the payment was completed. Don't assume payment succeeded just because you closed the page. If your payment record and order status don't match, keep the order ID, payment record and relevant messages, then submit them for review through a support ticket. Avoid creating the same order repeatedly. When sharing screenshots, redact personal information that isn't needed for verification. Never share your account password or follow payment instructions from outside the panel.

How is the price difference handled when I upgrade my plan mid-cycle?

The price difference for a mid-cycle upgrade is converted into remaining days. Before proceeding, check the change details shown in the panel against your current and target plans. Don't assume the difference simply adds data, or calculate future entitlements using a daily price of your own. First review your plan status and order history, then confirm the change on the plan selection page. If the result differs from what you expect, submit a support ticket with your current plan, target plan and the details shown on the page. Continue only after they're checked to avoid confusion from making several changes in a row.

How do I request a refund, and what should I include in a support ticket?

VPNRain offers a 7-day no-questions-asked refund policy. Check the Terms of Service for eligibility and the full request process. To request a refund, sign in to the original account, open a support ticket, clearly state that you're requesting a refund and provide the relevant order ID and any payment details needed for verification. If you're also having connection issues, you can include your platform, the client message and steps you've already tried, but you don't need to troubleshoot first in order to request a refund. Don't send passwords, full subscription links or sensitive information unrelated to order verification in a ticket.
