VPN Setup Guide

Follow the steps for your account, plan, subscription, client import, and connection check. Get one device connected first, then repeat the same process on your other devices.

Account setup

Create an account and save your login details

Start on the account creation page in the user panel and enter a username and password. VPNRain does not require an email address; your login consists of your username and password. Choose a username you can recognize and store securely. Use a unique password rather than reusing one from another site. Before submitting, check for extra spaces, especially if you copied the details from a password manager or another app.

When you’re done, open the account overview and confirm that your account details appear. If you’re still on the form, read the prompts near the fields and correct the relevant entry rather than submitting repeatedly. If you already have an account, just sign in; you don’t need to create another one to set up a device. Account access and client setup are separate steps: being able to sign in does not mean your device is connected.

After signing in, save the panel address and your login details before choosing a plan. Since account creation does not require an email address, don’t assume email recovery will be available, and don’t leave your password only in a temporary clipboard. You’ll need this account to get your subscription, check orders, and submit support tickets. If you have trouble signing in, see Account and subscription help to determine whether the issue is an incorrect entry or an expired session.

Plans and orders

Choose a plan and confirm payment

Stay signed in and open the plans section in the panel. First, compare monthly subscriptions with data packages, then review the data allowances. Monthly subscriptions suit regular use: ¥9.9/month includes 60GB, ¥18/month includes 250GB, and ¥28/month includes 500GB. Data resets monthly from the activation date, not automatically at the start of the calendar month. If you already have a plan, the upgrade price is prorated for the remaining days; check the order details in the panel before submitting.

Data packages are suited to pay-as-you-use needs. Prices are ¥158/300GB, ¥358/1000GB, and ¥658/3000GB. They last until used and never expire. The difference is how you use the data, not which client you use. Choose based on your browsing habits: video streaming, file transfers, and using multiple devices all consume account data. Don’t estimate your allowance based on unlimited devices alone.

Once you’ve chosen a plan, go to order confirmation and check the plan name, price, and data allowance. Then select Alipay, WeChat Pay, or USDT as prompted. After paying, return to the panel to check the order and plan status. Payment confirmation and updated account benefits are separate steps. If the status hasn’t updated, refresh the order or reopen the overview; don’t pay again without checking the original order. If you need help, sign in and describe the order status in a support ticket. Never share your payment password.

VPNRain offers a 7-day no-questions-asked refund policy. See the Terms of Service for eligibility and instructions. Confirm that your plan is active before moving on, so you don’t mistake an inactive subscription for a server issue. To compare monthly subscriptions and data packages, see all plan prices. This guide doesn’t estimate long-term data usage.

Getting your subscription

Get your subscription in the panel

Return to the account overview, check your current plan and remaining data, then look for the subscription or import option. A subscription gives your client access to the server configurations available to your account; it is not a browser bookmark or an installation file. Choose an import method supported by your client. If the panel offers one-click import, you can open the client directly. If the client isn’t installed yet, download it in the next section and return here afterward.

To import manually, use the copy option in the panel to get your subscription link, then paste it into the subscription or configuration manager in your client. Don’t add quotation marks, explanatory text, or line breaks. Don’t paste the link into a search box to look for an installer, and don’t post it publicly to check its format. The link contains account access credentials, so protect it like a password. When setting up another device, sign in to the panel on that device to get the link.

For one-click import, your browser may ask whether to open the associated app. Check that it’s the client you intend to use before allowing it. If no prompt appears, the client may not be installed or linked; use manual import instead of clicking repeatedly. After manual import, the client usually needs to fetch the subscription data. The step is complete when the server list appears; saving a configuration name alone doesn’t confirm that the subscription loaded.

If the first import fails, return to the overview and check that your plan is active, then make sure you copied the complete link. If the panel has updated or reset your subscription, you may need to replace the old configuration. Don’t keep importing links from unknown sources into the same client; it makes it harder to tell which configuration is in use. For more help with subscription updates and configuration, visit the Support Center.

Import by platform

Install the client and import your subscription

Download the client and get your subscription through the user panel. Sign in first, then follow the instructions for your device. For iOS, follow the access instructions shown in the panel.

Windows

In the panel’s download section, select Windows to get the Windows desktop client provided by VPNRain, then follow the installer. On first launch, look for the account login, subscription manager, or configuration manager. If the client asks you to sign in, use the VPNRain account you just created. If it supports link import, return to the account overview, copy your subscription link, and choose the option to add a configuration from a link.

Give the configuration a name you’ll recognize, save it, then fetch or update its contents. Check that the server list appears and select the imported configuration for use. If your system requests network permissions, verify the app’s source before following the prompt. For now, avoid running other proxy tools at the same time; verify the connection with this client first. Using multiple tools at once can make it unclear which one controls your system proxy.

macOS

Select the macOS client in the panel and follow the system and installation instructions shown there. After installation, the client may be accessible from its app window or the menu bar. Open the main interface and look for the subscription, configuration, or account section. If one-click import from the panel is supported, start it from the account overview. Otherwise, import the link manually and fetch the subscription data after saving.

A configuration appearing in the list doesn’t mean it’s selected. Check that the active configuration matches the server list. When connecting, follow any system prompts to grant network permissions; don’t disable system security settings as a workaround for installation. If you close the main window but still need to manage the client, check whether its menu bar icon is still available. Closing a window isn’t always the same as quitting the app, so check the connection status.

Android

Sign in to the panel and select Android in the download section to get the Android client provided by VPNRain. If Android asks you to confirm the installation source, verify that the file came from the panel before continuing. Open the client and choose the account sign-in or add-subscription option shown. To import by link, open the subscription manager, choose import from link, then paste, save, and update.

Once the server list appears, select the active configuration and a server, then connect. Android may ask you to authorize a VPN connection; confirm that the app name matches the client you’re using. If the connection drops only after switching to the background, first check Android’s background activity restrictions for the client. Don’t immediately delete the subscription and reinstall. During the initial check, keep the steps between the client and browser clear so you can distinguish import issues from background activity restrictions.

iOS

Open the iOS download option in the panel and follow the instructions to get a compatible client. Access requirements and available options for iOS are determined by the panel; don’t follow installation steps for other platforms. After installation, use the matching import option provided in the panel if available. If you need to copy the subscription, find the subscription or configuration manager in the client, choose add from link, and fetch the contents rather than opening the link as a regular webpage.

After importing, check that the server list appears, then select a server and connect. The system may ask to add a VPN configuration or authorize the device; follow the normal system prompts. Never send device unlock credentials through a webpage or support ticket. If the browser doesn’t open the client automatically, return to the app and import manually. If the subscription is imported but you still can’t connect, check that the configuration is enabled before moving on to the connection checks below.

Linux is also supported. Sign in to the panel, open the download section, and follow the instructions for the Linux client currently available. This guide doesn’t cover command-line, development environment, or app-level proxy configuration, to avoid adding extra variables during your first connection. To configure network access separately for an IDE, command line, or AI tool, first verify your basic connection, then read the Complete Guide to Accessing AI Tools.

Once setup is complete on any platform, the client should display the current subscription’s server list and let you select a configuration. VPNRain supports unlimited devices, but each one still needs its own installation, import, and authorization. A connection on your computer doesn’t automatically set up your other devices, and unlimited devices doesn’t mean unlimited data. Check your usage in the account overview.

Connection checks

Connect to a server and verify access

Select the configuration you just imported, choose an exit region from the server list, and connect. If the client offers system proxy, rule mode, or other traffic-routing options, start with the defaults recommended by the panel and client. Don’t change multiple settings at once. VPNRain offers 100+ countries / 150+ servers; availability depends on the current subscription. The goal here is to confirm that setup works, not to test every region.

Keep the same server selected, open the website you want to use, and wait for it to load. Then try an action, such as opening a content page or sending a standard request. If only the homepage loads and subsequent requests don’t respond, the connection hasn’t been fully verified. A connected status in the client confirms that the local connection is on, but website access can also depend on your account, regional rules, and the service itself. Don’t rely on the connection icon alone.

If the site doesn’t respond, first check in the client that the connection is still on, the active configuration hasn’t changed, and the subscription can still be read. Then check your plan and data in the panel. Once those are confirmed, try another server and reload the target page, changing only one thing at a time. If other websites work but one service doesn’t, keep the error message and check that service’s access requirements instead of immediately deleting the entire client configuration.

Video and AI tools need a further check: video should keep playing, not just show a thumbnail, and an AI page should complete a request and continue returning responses. Video quality, account eligibility, and a platform’s regional rules aren’t determined by the client’s connection status alone. For more details, see our Streaming Guide or Complete Guide to AI Tools. You don’t need to learn every detail before your first connection.

Once the connection works, keep the current configuration and note where to connect, update your subscription, and check your remaining data. If the server list changes later, update the subscription before choosing a server again. VPNRain’s privacy policy states that it keeps no logs, but you’re responsible for protecting your subscription link, account password, and personal screenshots. Before submitting a screenshot with a support request, hide your subscription details and other account credentials.
